Background
Financial sustainability is essential to the success of any professional society, including the African Astronomical Society (AfAS) as a professional society for astronomers on the African continent. The AfAS Executive Committee (EC) resolved to establish a Fund-Raising Committee, which will assist the AfAS EC in the planning, coordination and implementation of all fundraising activities in support of the projects and activities of the AfAS. This committee will actively participate in raising of funds to support the AfAS and its projects. It will develop new and existing relationships with donors, maximising their support and involvement with the Society.
Objectives of the Fund-Raising Committee
- To raise funding to support the activities of AfAS in order to enhance its long-term sustainability.
- To identify potential sources of funding from both the public and private sectors.
- To lobby and to engage funders on the vision and mission of the AfAS.
- To develop strategic funding partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
