Marie Korsaga is a Lecturer and Researcher in Astrophysics. She is affiliated with the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA-CSIC) and Université Joseph KI-Zerbo, respectively.

Dr Korsaga, originally from Burkina Faso, is an astrophysicist with a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Cape Town in South Africa and Aix-Marseille Université in France. She has held lecturing and research positions at leading institutions, including Université Joseph KI-Zerbo in Burkina Faso, the Strasbourg Astronomical Observatory in France, and Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía in Spain, with research focused on the distribution of dark matter in galaxies using multi-wavelength observations.

Besides her academic activities, she is passionate about using astronomy as a tool for development in her home country and other developing countries. As a result, she serves on the Executive Committee of the African Astronomical Society (AfAS) and is a founding member of L’Astronomie Afrique, a free online French-language outreach magazine for lovers of astronomy, space sciences, and Africa.

Dr Korsaga is involved in many projects advocating the promotion of women in STEM studies to contribute towards equal gender representation in science, particularly in developing countries. She has given several high-profile talks and appeared in several documentary films.

In 2022, she received the first ever African women in Astronomy early carrier award from the African Network of Women in Astronomy (AfNWA) and the International Science Programme, Uppsala University in recognition of her scientific achievements and outreach activities.
